Piping Engineers design, develop, and maintain the piping systems that carry liquids and gases to various destinations. Piping Engineers are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the piping system that carries liquid or gas to the desired destination. Piping Engineers also work with engineers in other engineering disciplines including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, hydraulic, environmental health, and safety professionals. The job entails planning the piping layout for a project based on input from clients or the engineering team. The engineer then designs the pipeline system which includes selecting the material type and size of pipes as well as valves to be used. They also make calculations using a program such as Autodesk 360 to determine the pipe sizes required for the job.
